UCI vocal arts alumni Dr. Philip Harris and Dalia Rodriguez present an inspirational recital of songs, arias, and spirituals. Dr. Harris, who has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Davies Hall, and the Aspen Festival, has introduced audiences nationwide to music by Black American composers through lectures, masterclasses, and recitals.

The events of 1947, from the birth of the Cold War to the first reports of UFOs, reverberate to this day. Pianist Alan Terricciano explores the year 1947 through the lens of the extraordinary piano music produced that year by Prokofiev, Ustwolskaja, Wolpe, Monk, Talma, Cage and Hovhaness.

Jen Shyu: Zero Grasses

In Zero Grasses, Jen Shyu weaves together composition, vocals, dance, piano, Japanese biwa, Korean gayageum, Taiwanese moon lute, and electronics into a ritualistic solo performance. This new project addresses—and aims to heal—the loss of communication between humanity and nature, and the need to restore human bonds. 

Free and open to the public.

The UCI Symphony Orchestra is one of the premier large performance ensembles at UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts. The orchestra has been in existence since 1970, offering music majors, non-music majors, faculty and other community
members an opportunity to study and perform symphonic music of the ages. Spend the evening with the UCI Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Tucker, for an exploration of music by composers from around the world.

Inaugurated in 2018, the second edition of the LISTEN TO THE MOTION features the motion sensor system MUGIC™, which captures the movements of a performer’s expressive gestures. The concert presents students from the Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology (ICIT) program in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA), who have been working with MUGIC™ with Professor Mari Kimura. Prof. Kimura has been researching the use of motion sensors in performance and composition, to enable integrated human/machine relationship that could extend and create a new form of expressiveness.
