Undergraduate Auditions, Fall 2024

First-round prescreen audition submission deadline: December 15th, 2023 at 12pm (PST)

Auditions overview

  • First-round prescreen auditions are required for all instruments and vocalists, including incoming 1st year students, incoming transfer students, and current UCI students seeking to add the music major.
  • Applicants who pass the first-round prescreen audition will be invited to a second-round audition.
  • Most second-round auditions will be held in person at the UCI campus in Irvine, CA. Some instrumental areas will instead hold second-round auditions virtually, over Zoom. See "Second-round audition dates" below for details. 
  • Applicants who cannot travel to in-person auditions may request a virtual audition by exception by emailing music@uci.edu.

Audition process (undergraduates)

First-round prescreen auditions:

  1. View the "Prescreen Audition Video Requirements" and "Undergraduate Prescreen Audition Repertoire Requirements" below.
  2. Submit your prescreen audition here by 12pm (Noon) on December 15th, 2023. 
  3. Applicants will receive their prescreening audition result no later than January 5th. Those who pass the prescreening will be invited to schedule a second round audition, to take place in the last two weekends in January.

Second-round auditions:

  1. A second audition is required for all applicants who pass the prescreen.
  2. Schedule your audition as early as possible, and no later than January 15th. See dates below. Audition times are first-come, first-serve.
  3. Attend your audition in late January.
  4. Refer to Dates and Deadlines at UCI Undergraduate Admissions for final admission decisions, timelines, and more.

Prescreen Audition Video Requirements

  • Perform ONLY repertoire which meets the stated requirements below. If you have questions about the repertoire, contact the faculty member listed as a contact on the Repertoire Requirements page for your instrument.
  • Submit VIDEO links only, not audio-only files (we need to see as well as hear you)
  • Clearly state your name and the repertoire you will be performing at the start of each video.
  • Verify your links work and that permissions are set correctly before submitting. We do not troubleshoot broken links; auditions that cannot be accessed may not be considered.
  • If applying for more than one instrument, submit separately. Do not combine multiple instruments in one submission.

Second-round Audition Dates, January 2024

Second-round auditions for fall admission take place each year on the 3rd and 4th weekends in January. This year's dates are:

Saturday, January 20th

  • Percussion (classical) - - IN PERSON
  • Piano (classical) - - IN PERSON
  • Strings (Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Viola, Violin) - - IN PERSON
  • Vocal Arts - - IN PERSON

Sunday, January 21st

  • Guitar & Lute (classical) - - VIRTUAL
  • Woodwinds (Bassoon, Clarinet, Flute, Oboe) - - IN PERSON

Saturday, January 27th

  • Jazz Studies (Acoustic Bass, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet) - - VIRTUAL
  • Strings (Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Viola, Violin) - - IN PERSON

Sunday, January 28th

  • Brass (Euphonium, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba) - - IN PERSON
  • Piano (classical) - IN PERSON
  • Vocal Arts - - IN PERSON

In-person Auditions: Doors open at 9:00 am (PST). Auditions begin at 10:00 am (Unless specified differently).

Virtual Auditions: Please access the Zoom link a few minutes before your scheduled audition. You will be admitted to a waiting room.

Please join us for a Welcome and Overview of the Music Department and Claire Trevor School of the Arts!
