Original new works by UCI Music Department first-year MA and Ph.D. students in Integrated Composition, Improvisation and Technology (ICIT). ICIT embraces diverse forms of contemporary music-making, challenging conventional distinctions between classical composition, computer music, improvisation and jazz.

UCI students explore the rich cultural traditions of the Iberian Peninsula, including the diaspora. Songs in Portuguese, Catalan, and, of course, Spanish will be performed by outstanding students.

Recipient of the National Medal of Arts and subject of the Michael Stillwater film Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen, Lauridsen was hailed as an “American Choral Master” by the National Endowment for the Arts. The composer will introduce each set of pieces and join the choirs at the piano.
Internationally renowned Jazz pianist and recording artist, Kei Akagi, is joined by Darek Oles on bass, Jason Harnell on the drums, plus special guest Michael Dessen on trombone for two evenings of extraordinary jazz.
