UCI Opera is thrilled to return to the Irvine Barclay Theatre stage with a classic opera about dueling divas: Madame Goldentrill and Miss Silverpeel. The production will be sung in English, with supertitles (arias will be sung in original German). This telling will be set in a New York sound stage, reminiscent of the NBC studios of the late 1950s. This is an annual Mother's Day weekend treat the entire family will enjoy!
Der Schauspieldirektor (The Impresario), K. 486, is regarded as “a parody on the vanity of singers” who argue over status and pay. Mozart described his singspiel as “comedy with music.” The work was written during a very creative period in Mozart’s life, at the same time as his Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), which premiered later the same year.
