REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

Orchestra rehearsals are usually in MM 220A (orchestra room).
Please check this webpage regularly.
Rehearsals begin promptly at 7pm, with the tuning note.
Orchestra members are expected to be present 10 minutes before the start of rehearsal.

 

Tentative Schedule - Spring 2024

 

 

Week 3 Thurs:

 

7-8:30 Strings only

8:30 Break

8:45 Dvorak runthrough

9:30 TBA (probably Ibert)

 

Week 4 Tues: Opera Orch/everyone else sectionals

 

Week 4 Thurs: Opera Orch/everyone else sectionals

 

Week 5 Tues: Opera Orch only

 

Week 5 Thurs: Opera Sitzprobe

 

Week 6 Tues: Opera dress rehearsal #1

 

Week 6 Thurs: 7pm Readthrough “Stratum” ft. Professor Hare (those not in opera), 8pm Opera dress rehearsal #2

 

Saturday, 5/11: Opera performance #1 (8pm)

 

Sunday, 5/12: Opera performance #2 (2pm)

 

Week 7 Tues: Readthrough Saariaho (piece is for strings only), then check Bloch/Dvorak/Rivera/Ibert. String principals bow Saariaho parts by Thurs.

 

Week 7 Thurs: Rehearsal

 

Week 8 Tues: Rehearsal

 

Week 8 Thurs: Rehearsal/Conducting Lab

 

Week 9 Tues: Rehearsal/Conducting Lab

 

Week 9 Thurs: Rehearsal

 

Week 10 Tues: Rehearsal (last in MM 220), adding hired musicians

 

Week 10 Thurs: Dress Rehearsal in IBT

 

Week 10 Fri (June 7): CONCERT, 8pm in IBT

 

The Conductor

Dr. Geoffrey Pope has been recognized through numerous appointments, commissions, and awards as a conductor and composer. Pope’s musical work has taken him throughout the United States and Europe, where he seeks to present provocative and engaging performances that have a strong cultural impact. He joins UCI in 2022, having led in an interim capacity in the spring quarters of 2019 and 2021. For more information, click here.
