UCI Chamber Singers

UCI Chamber Singers, an auditioned group of 24-32 singers, is the flagship ensemble of UCI’s choral program. The group includes both vocal performance majors and talented singers from other fields.

Chamber Singers is directed by Dr. Seth Houston, with collaborative pianist Kolina Sheng. The ensemble rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:20. Highlights for the 2018-19 season include:

  • October 9, 2018. Perform the world premiere of a new work by Ellen Reid, commissioned by the LA Phil, at Walt Disney Concert Hall, together with the Donald Brinegar Singers and singers from USC Thornton.
  • March 9, 2019. Host the 90th annual PSICA intercollegiate festival. Irvine Barclay Theatre.
  • March 15, 2019. Winter concert, “Sonority,” featuring the world premiere performance of a new work by UCI faculty member Nicole Mitchell. Winifred Smith Hall.
  • May 3, 2019. “Celebrate Music at UCI.” Irvine Barclay Theatre. 
  • May 4, 2019. Host the 2nd annual AcaLove a cappella choral festival. Irvine Barclay Theatre.
  • May 11-12, 2019. UCI Opera presents Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss. Irvine Barclay Theatre.
  • June 6-8, 2019. Performing Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony of a Thousand” with the Pacific Symphony and the Pacific Chorale, conducted by Carl St. Clair. Segerstrom Concert Hall (pending final confirmation).
