The Trio de Janeiro will perform two of the world's most well-loved piano trios; the monumental Ghost Trio by Beethoven and the scintillating Dumky Trio by Dvořák. Featuring Haroutune Bedelian, violin, Armen Ksajikian, cello, and Lorna Griffitt, piano, the Trio de Janeiro first met in 1990 at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Alaska. Since that time, they have performed together on numerous series in Oregon, California and Brazil among other venues.

Active since 2003, the Michael Dessen Trio has been praised by critics for its unique blend of intricate composition, open improvisation and live electronics. With three releases on Clean Feed Records and a fourth coming in 2017, the band is especially known for their immersive, continuous live sets and for recordings produced with the same spirit. This performance will premiere new works designed to feature renowned guests Nicole Mitchell (flute) and Joshua White (piano).

The UCI Symphony Orchestra presents “A Season of Joy.” This concert will feature Edvard Grieg’s Norwegian Dances; John Williams’s Three Pieces from Schindler’s List featuring Roberto Cani, concertmaster and violinist for the LA Opera Orchestra; and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, arranged by Ellington and Strayhorn.

Nina Scolnik with the American String Quartet

Praised by the press for her musical sensitivity, precision, and attention to style, Nina Scolnik has performed at renowned festivals in Europe and in the United States as a recitalist, soloist with orchestra and chamber musician. A distinguished teacher of international standing, Scolnik has groomed pianists for serious careers as concert artists and teachers for over 30 years.

Internationally recognized as one of the world’s finest quartets, the American String Quartet has spent decades honing the luxurious sound for which it is famous. In its 40 years of touring, it has performed in all fifty states and has appeared in the most important concert halls worldwide.

Hailed as “a first-class ensemble,” “unfailingly stylish,” “technically dazzling,” and “the epitome of what chamber musicians should be,” Trio Céleste has firmly established itself as one of the most dynamic chamber music ensembles on the classical music scene today. Performing in hundreds of recitals worldwide, their 2017 highlights include lauded debuts at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Seoul Arts Center in South Korea, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Their first album debuted at #5 on iTunes for “Best Seller New Release.”

The Trio will be joined by Chamber Music | OC Camerata in its performance debut, as well as members of Chamber Music | OC’s renowned Young Artists Program.
