Community.quantumland.art by Omar Costa Hamido

Community.quantumland.art is one of the outputs from the MSCA project IIMPAQCT. In the course of a growing interest in quantum computing and creative practices, on the international panorama, there is a need to be able to map and connect this emerging community. What are the events, what creative and written works are being produced, what technologies are being used, who are the actors, and how do all these elements relate? “Community.” emerges as an online platform, developed in open source, to connect, document, and stimulate creative work and interdisciplinary research in the community. In this brief presentation I will do a walkthrough of the two dimensions of the platform – forum and database -, and also make a brief reference to the platform building philosophy: online community digital garden.

Abstract will be added soon.

Sounds Like You by Josh Ottum

This presentation will center on my approach to teaching music technology courses at the community college level and my process of putting together a workbook that introduces basics of music technology, recording, songwriting, and entrepreneurship. While the book is aimed at the beginner, creative people at all stages of their careers will find the co-authorial nature of the text helpful. With prompts, exercises, and idea generating sections, the reader will be encouraged to tap into their creativity to make things they want to listen to and share. My hope for this talk is to have a dialogue about innovative ways for educators to present core concepts around creativity and technology to students in a landscape stuffed with information. Alongside this, I’d like to discuss different strategies around sustaining a creative practice in order to actively do the things that we teach.

Two Miles a Second: Co-composing Music for Piano and Electronics by Christian DuBeau

Co-composing is rare in contemporary classical music. Since 2017, I have been co-composing music for piano and electronics with a friend. I will talk about how we approach this challenge and about our newly formed performance duo called “Two Miles a Second.” Most of the music we compose is inspired by mountain ranges, ghost towns, and abandoned mines in Southern California, and most of the electronic portion of our music consists of processed field recordings. I will describe this in more detail and explain how the piano part in our music complements the fixed media.
