Kelly Moran, b. 1988, is a composer, performer, improviser, sound designer and multimedia artist from Long Island, New York. She completed her undergraduate degree in Performing Arts Technology at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where she studied piano performance, sound engineering, and composition. Kelly developed various improvisational practices while at U of M, joining the free-improv group Creative Arts Orchestra in addition to utilizing solo automatism as a basis for composition and musical exploration. A deep interest in composition for dance has propelled numerous collaborations, composing pieces for BFA and MFA recitals, ACDFA submissions, and extra-curricular performances. As a pianist, Kelly has given multiple recitals of contemporary piano repertoire specializing in works employing extended techniques and a “prepared” piano.
