Isshin Oikawa was born in Japan and started piano lessons when he was 4 years old. Being in a brass band, he also started playing bassoon and trumpet, and came to the US in 2001. He began the ICIT program after completing a music degree at California State University, Northridge, where he studied contemporary music composition with Dr. Liviu Marinescu.
