Midterm Musicianship Exam - 16D

1. Sing an arpeggiation of the chord progression I - IV - V7 - I (or i - iv - V7 - i) in any key chosen (by the professor) from C, G, F, D, Bb, A, Eb, E, or Ab major, or a, e, d, b, g, c, f#, f, c# minor, singing the note names, in a steady tempo. (This should be done with very little thought beforehand, and no loss of tempo or hesitation while singing.)

2. Play the chord progression I - IV - V - I (or i - iv - V - i) in any key chosen (by the professor) from C, G, F, D, Bb, A, Eb, E, or Ab major, or a, e, d, b, g, c, f#, f, c# minor, using good four-part voice leading. (This should be done with very little thought beforehand, and no loss of tempo or hesitation while playing.)

3. Perform (at least 4 measures of, preferably all 8 measures of) the given rhythm, tapping the beat and singing the rhythm on "ta" or "la". (A few seconds may be taken to scan the music before performing. The performance should be in a steady tempo with no major loss of tempo or hesitation. One small stop to correct an obvious error is acceptable.)

4. Perform one of the two melodies (chosen by the professor), tapping the beat and singing on scale degrees (preferred) or "la". (A few seconds may be taken to scan the music before performing. The performance should be in a steady tempo with no major loss of tempo or hesitation. One small stop to correct an obvious error is acceptable.)

5. Sing all the triads in any key chosen (by the professor) from C, G, F, D, Bb, A, Eb, E, or Ab major, or a, e, d, b, g, c, f#, f, c# minor, singing the note names, in a steady tempo. (This should be done with very little thought beforehand, and no loss of tempo or hesitation while singing.) In the case of minor, all triads should be from the natural minor scale, except for the major V chord.
