San Francisco’s critically acclaimed Del Sol Quartet presents a program focusing on young Iranian and Iranian-American composers, including works by three UCI graduate students. Del Sol will also perform Ben Johnston’s String Quartet No. 4 Amazing Grace. In Johnston’s overwhelmingly inventive composition, the well-loved European hymn resonates with just-intonation intervals.

Kei Akagi & Friends: An Evening of Modern Jazz with the Tokyo Trio

Since its formation in 2001, the Tokyo Trio – Kei Akagi (piano), Shunya Wakai (bass), and Tamaya Honda (drums) – has recorded seven critically acclaimed albums and performed over 500 concerts in Asia, Europe, Africa, and America. Featuring Akagi’s compositions, the trio’s music spans the spectrum of jazz from post-bop to the avant-garde.
