ABOUT US

The Department of Music is located within the Claire Trevor School of the Arts complex. For a map of the complex, click here. In Fall 2005 the School opened its newest facility, the Arts Plaza, designed by artist Maya Lin. This unique outdoor venue showcases the visual and performing arts, including live performances of music by faculty, students, and visiting musicians.

The Music & Media Building contains faculty and staff offices, teaching studios, classrooms, rehearsal spaces, several practice rooms, a percussion studio, a keyboard laboratory, and various other specialized spaces. Additional practice rooms are located in the Mesa Arts Building.

The Arts Instruction and Technology Resource Center contains a large choral and orchestral rehearsal studio and houses the Arts Media Center. Performances venues include the Claire Trevor Theater, Winifred Smith Hall, and the Irvine Barclay Theater.

Facilities devoted to issues of technology and the arts include the Gassmann Electronic Music Studio, the ReaLab, and the Beall Center for Art and Technology.

The Cyber A Café, located immediately across the Arts Plaza from Smith Hall, provides a campus venue for students, visiting artists, and the community to view digital art informally, and to discuss art through electronic media. The environment is designed to highlight the display of digital art with "surf-stations" for small group viewing and a “Cyber Jockey” projecting digital imagery on a wall-sized screen. The café is open for light meals and coffee during the week and keeps extended hours for School of the Arts performances.

The main library collection for teaching and research (books and musical scores) is found in the Langson Library. An extensive collection of audio recordings and more modest collection of scores is housed in the Arts Media Center.
