Course Description

This is a new course that is required of MFA students in the ICIT emphasis, and is also open to other graduate music students. It introduces practices and histories of musical improvisation in diverse fields of Western music since 1950. Performance projects and group critiques; weekly reading and listening assignments; participation in a class concert; and a research paper.
