No. We are looking for serious musicians who want to explore the integration of composition, improvisation and technology. Our entering class spans quite a range of specializations and interests, including European classical music, computer music, jazz, Persian music, and hip hop. We are open to a range of different traditions and approaches, and hope is to build a culture within the program within which students and faculty can all learn from one another. Students will certainly have opportunities to explore their own interests in depth, most of all during the 2nd year of the program while working on the thesis project. But they should also be willing to explore new areas and have their assumptions challenged.
