Composition and Technology
Please note that beginning Fall 2008, we anticipate that this program will be replaced by the new proposed program in Integrated Composition, Improvisation and Technology (ICIT).
Coursework
- Bibliography (M200), 4 units
- Analysis (M201A–B), 8 units
- Graduate Composition (M212), max. 24 units (Note: taken every quarter
in residence)
- Seminars (selected from M220, M230, M235), 12 units (Note: must
include at least one qtr of M235 or comparable course in critical studies,
selected with advisor)
- Music Technology (M215), 8 units
- Music Electives, 8 units (selected from M136, M145–148, and
M191; M215 [beyond the two qtrs required], M220 and M 230 [beyond those
used to meet the seminar requirement above]; M240; and M250)
- Participation in a large ensemble or chamber group (M160, M161,
M162, M162P, M171, M176, M178, or M182), 6 units
- Graduate Recital (M212R), 0 units (Note: Preparation and public
presentation of a project in composition [major composition, recital
of compositions, CD/DVD, etc.], including score and supporting written
essay)
Comprehensive Exam
Successful oral defense of the recital project (music and essay) before
the faculty committee.
