Composition and Technology

Please note that beginning Fall 2008, we anticipate that this program will be replaced by the new proposed program in Integrated Composition, Improvisation and Technology (ICIT).

Coursework
  1. Bibliography (M200), 4 units
  2. Analysis (M201A–B), 8 units
  3. Graduate Composition (M212), max. 24 units (Note: taken every quarter in residence)
  4. Seminars (selected from M220, M230, M235), 12 units (Note: must include at least one qtr of M235 or comparable course in critical studies, selected with advisor)
  5. Music Technology (M215), 8 units
  6. Music Electives, 8 units (selected from M136, M145–148, and M191; M215 [beyond the two qtrs required], M220 and M 230 [beyond those used to meet the seminar requirement above]; M240; and M250)
  7. Participation in a large ensemble or chamber group (M160, M161, M162, M162P, M171, M176, M178, or M182), 6 units
  8. Graduate Recital (M212R), 0 units (Note: Preparation and public presentation of a project in composition [major composition, recital of compositions, CD/DVD, etc.], including score and supporting written essay)
Comprehensive Exam

Successful oral defense of the recital project (music and essay) before the faculty committee.
