The faculty of the Department of Music
encompasses creative artists and active scholars from nearly every area
of concentration within the field of music. Composers, theorists, musicologists,
and performers collaborate in providing a wide-ranging course curriculum
and diverse schedule of musical events. All members of the faculty are
highly active in their fields, as publishing scholars, concert and recording
artists, and well-known composers. Many of the instrumental instructors
are drawn from the ranks of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles
Chamber Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony, and other orchestras in Southern
California.

Activities in the Department are supported by administrative
staff housed both within the Department itself and within the Office of
the Dean of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Most general matters
can be addressed in the Department Office. Admissions and student advising
for registration and graduation purposes, however, are handled through
the Dean's office. Similarly, the Dean’s office coordinates the
scheduling of concerts and student recitals.
