Mari Akagi in Concert: An Evening of Modern Piano

Pianist Mari Akagi is acclaimed for her interpretations of contemporary Asian music. She will perform works by seven modern composers of Europe, Asia, and America: Arnold Schoenberg, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Atsuhiko Gondai, Masao Homma, Toru Takemitsu, Christopher Dobrian, and James Newton. Faculty members Kei Akagi and Kojiro Umezaki will also participate.

UCI Chamber Singers join the Pacific Chorale and the Pacific Symphony, conducted by Carl St. Clair, to perform Mahler’s “Symphony of a Thousand.” The crowning jewel of the late Romantic era, Mahler’s eighth symphony is both universal in scope and a profound testament to the human spirit.

This extraordinary work, written for the internationally renowned clarinet duo AdZel (Miriam Adam and Stephanie Zelnick) includes narration and visual effects.
