Motion "Tracking" vs. Motion "Capture"

Both involve digital data describing the motion of an object.

For use as musical input, this is usually (but need not necessarily be) the locomotion or gestures of a human body.

Many means of deriving this data are possible; a 2-D video image is the most obvious and readily available source.

Realtime data stream(s) describing location/motion of object(s).

Non-realtime data collection representing coordinates of object(s).

Useful for continuous control of a device or a process.

Useful as input to an analysis or animation program.
