Departmental Core Curriculum

Four quarters of theory/musicianship (Music 16A-B-C-D)

Two additional quarters of courses in music theory chosen from:

• Post-tonal theory (Music 35A-B)
• Jazz Theory (Music 36A-B)
• Counterpoint (Music 43) or Advanced Counterpoint (Music 135)
• Instrumentation (Music 136)
• Composition (Music 150)
• Music Technology (Music 51, 151, or 152)

Three quarters of music history (Music 40B-C-D)

Attainment of a passing score on the Piano Sight-Reading Examination, to be taken no later than the first quarter of the junior year.
