Entrance Auditions
Prospective freshmen must demonstrate appropriate performance
proficiency. It is assumed that all applicants will have had a minimum
of three years of private instrumental or vocal instruction, and that
they can read music in both the treble and bass clefs, have a thorough
knowledge of scales, chords, and arpeggios, and have the ability to read
music at sight. Basic keyboard facility is highly desirable, as is solo,
choral, orchestral, band, or stage experience. Transfer students should
have had college-level private instrumental or vocal instruction; two
years of music theory; the history of Western music; ear-training; sight-singing;
sight-reading; and piano. Prospective graduate students should hold the
B.A. or B.Mus. degree with a strong major in music.
