Lecture by Dr. Rae Linda Brown: "Songs of Florence Price and Margaret Bonds"

Rae Linda Brown's research has focused on American music. She has completed a biography of composer Florence B. Price, The Heart of a Woman: The Life and Music of Florence B. Price (forthcoming University of Illinois Press)and has edited many of Price's scores for performance. Her lecture will be highlighted by student performances of art songs by the two American women composers. Artistic Director, Darryl Taylor.

A Master Class with the soprano Angela Brown

Angela Brown has been hailed as the brightest new star in the operatic world. She will be heard in April performances of Verdi's Aida at Opera Pacific (which the New York Times heralds as a triumph!) and will come to UCI to work with student performers on issues of technique, stage deportment, and interpretation. Artistic Director, Darryl Taylor.

Barber: Hermit Songs and Copland: Old American Songs

Students of UCI Vocal Arts will perform Samuel Barber's Hermit Songs and Aaron Copland's Old American Songs in this first concert of the new series.
