Victor Aguilar Lecturer in Music Phone: 949-824-6615 Office: 101 Music & Media D.M.A. University of California, Los Angeles Victor R. Aguilar is Director of Bands and Conductor of the UCI Wind Ensemble and Concert Band.  A native Texan, he received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Texas, San Antonio where he studied under Dr. Robert Rustowicz and most recently completed his Master of Musical Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Wind Conducting at the University of California, Los Angeles under the mentorship of Dr. Thomas Lee.  In addition to his responsibilities at UCI, Dr. Aguilar is an Adjunct Professor at California State University, Los Angeles, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate music education classes.

During his tenure at UCLA, Dr. Aguilar served as principal conductor of the UCLA Symphonic Band, Graduate Associate Conductor of the UCLA Wind Ensemble and co-founder of the UCLA Brass Choir.  While at UTSA, he was principal trumpet in the wind ensemble, orchestra and brass quintet. After graduating from UTSA in 1993, Dr. Aguilar taught high school band in the Houston, Pasadena, San Antonio and Fort Worth areas where held the positions of director of bands and district music supervisor. Throughout his public school teaching career, his bands received numerous University Interscholastic League sweepstakes awards, were Texas State Area marching champions, and were grand champions at statewide and national concert music festivals. Dr. Aguilar has also been an active adjudicator, clinician, and conductor throughout the states of Texas, Tennessee, and California. Such professional appearances include guest conductor for the Houston Independent School District All-City Band, guest clinician/conductor for the Houston ISD Summer Band Academy, guest conductor for the East Tennessee State University high school honor band, guest clinician for numerous public school districts, guest adjudicator for Music America and American Classic Music Festivals, and guest adjudicator for numerous region band and statewide marching and concert/sight-reading contests.

Professional memberships include College Band Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Educators Association, National Bandmasters Association, Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, California Band Directors Association and the California Music Educators Association.
