This course will look closely at several non-Western musical traditions, and track their influence on works and musical movements in 20th-century concert music and beyond. We will engage in musical analysis, critical reading, and discussion of ethical and cultural issues involved in cross-cultural music, and welcome invited lecturers and performers who will bring their varied perspectives to the class.
